STMicroelectronics DB3 DIAC is a precision trigger diode designed for AC circuit applications requiring a fixed voltage reference. This discrete semiconductor is housed in a DO-35 package with a 2-pin through-hole mount, measuring 4.5 mm in length and 2 mm in height, enabling compact design integration.
The DB3 DIAC operates reliably across a wide temperature range from -40°C to 125°C, ensuring robust performance in diverse industrial environments. It features a maximum breakover voltage of 36 V and low breakover current of 50 μA, providing symmetrical breakover voltage characteristics, which are critical for consistent triggering behavior.
Its repetitive peak on-state current is rated at 2 A with a very low off-state leakage current of 0.01 mA, making it suitable for use with triacs as a triggering device. Typical applications include motor and light dimmer circuits, oscillator circuits requiring 32 V trigger, and starting elements in fluorescent lamp ballasts such as CFL, TL, or LED lamps.
The DIAC functions by conducting current only after its breakover voltage is momentarily reached, making it an essential component in AC power control and switching applications within industrial, commercial, and lighting sectors.
The device is compliant with ECOPACK®2 directives, promoting environmental safety in manufacturing. Functions as a trigger diode with fixed voltage reference. Used in conjunction with triacs for gate control in dimmer and motor circuits.
Operates within extended temperature range (-40°C to 125°C). Symmetrical breakover voltage with a low breakover current improves circuit reliability. Compact DO-35 through-hole package enhances durability and ease of installation.
Ideal for fluorescent lamp ballasts, CFL, TL, and LED lighting applications. Repeatable and stable trigger characteristics ensure consistent performance. Repetitive peak on-state current of 2 A supports robust AC load switching.
Low off-state leakage current minimizes power losses. ECOPACK®2 compliant, supporting environmentally responsible designs.
These features make the STMicroelectronics DB3 DIAC a reliable choice for industrial electronics, lighting control, and power management applications. Browse the Envmart collection for further Discrete Semiconductor components and related products.
