Product Description
STMicroelectronics SMDB3 DIAC is a Discrete Semiconductor diode designed for AC triggering applications, featuring a maximum breakover voltage of 36 V and repetitive peak on-state current of 1 A. Packaged in a compact 3-pin SOT-23 surface mount device, it supports space-efficient, automated PCB assembly processes.
This diode conducts current only after its breakover voltage has been reached momentarily, making it ideal as a triggering device in triac or SCR based motor and light dimmer circuits. The DB3/DB4 series, including the SMDB3 model, is commonly used as a start-up triggering element in fluorescent lamp ballasts for CFL, TL, or LED lamps, and as a trigger device in oscillator circuits.
Its low breakover current and breakover voltage symmetry of 3 V optimize performance in gate control circuits. The diode operates reliably over a temperature range from -40°C to 125°C, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications.
