TE Connectivity 3-640441-8 is an 8-way female IDC connector designed for cable mounting with a shrouded housing and right angle orientation. Rated for 250V AC and 5A current, this connector features a 2.54 mm pitch consistent with MTA-100 series specifications. It is constructed with a nylon housing and copper contacts plated with tin over nickel to ensure durability and corrosion resistance.
This connector employs insulation displacement contact (IDC) technology enabling quick one-step assembly without the need for wire stripping, enhancing production efficiency and reliability. The connector supports a wide operating temperature range from -55°C to 105°C, suitable for demanding industrial and automotive environments.
The design includes end to end stackability and a friction lock mechanism to provide secure mating and alignment. Moulded ribs prevent reverse mating, and optional polarizing tabs offer additional alignment assurance. Applications include automotive body and chassis systems, driver information, safety and security systems, as well as computer and consumer electronics such as desktop PCs, notebooks, servers, and storage systems.
The MTA-100 2.54 mm interconnect system used by this connector supports labour-saving and cost-effective mass termination of wires ranging from 28 AWG to 22 AWG, compatible with both discrete wire and notched ribbon cable. Colour-coded housings allow easy wire size identification.
