FTDI Chip FT232RL-REEL is a high-performance multiprotocol transceiver packaged in a compact 28-Pin SSOP surface mount. This device integrates a USB to serial UART interface with an optional clock generator output, supporting asynchronous and synchronous bit bang interface modes. It includes an embedded 1024-bit EEPROM, clock circuitry, and USB resistors, effectively making it a "3 in 1" chip for various applications.

The internally generated clock frequencies of 6 MHz, 12 MHz, 24 MHz, and 48 MHz can drive microcontrollers or external logic. Additionally, each unit is uniquely identifiable by a burnt-in FTDIChip-ID, enabling protection mechanisms for customer software against unauthorized copying.

This transceiver supports data transfer rates ranging from 300 Baud up to 3 MBaud using RS422, RS485, or RS232 interfacing at TTL levels. It features a 128-byte receive buffer and a 256-byte transmit buffer with smoothing technology to ensure high throughput.

Designed for surface mounting, the 28-pin SSOP package measures 10.2mm in length, 5.3mm in width, and 1.75mm in height, operating reliably between -40°C and 85°C with supply voltage between 1.8V and 5.25V.
