STMicroelectronics L6470PDTR Stepper Motor Driver IC is an advanced fully integrated solution designed using analog mixed signal technology for driving bipolar stepper motors with precision. It incorporates a dual low RDS(on) DMOS full bridge providing a 7A peak output current and a broad operating voltage range from 8 V to 45 V. The device is packaged in a compact 36-pin SO-8 surface mount package with dimensions 9.8 mm length, 4.5 mm width, and 1.05 mm height, making it suitable for compact electronic assemblies.
Equipped with on-chip current sensing and non-dissipative current control, this IC ensures efficient motor power management while providing comprehensive protections including overcurrent, thermal shutdown, low voltage, and motor stall detection. The digital control core supports up to 1/128 microstepping resolution, enabling smooth and precise motor positioning. It allows programmable acceleration, deceleration, and speed profiles, which can be configured through a standard 5 Mbps SPI interface, facilitating easy integration and control.
The L6470PDTR includes programmable power MOS slew rate control and sensorless stall detection, enhancing performance in demanding motor control applications. The device has low quiescent and standby currents, optimizing power consumption for battery-powered or low-power systems. Operating temperature ranges from -40°C to 150°C, making it suitable for industrial, robotic, automation, HVAC, and manufacturing applications requiring reliable stepper motor control.
Typical applications include bipolar stepper motors in industrial automation, robotics, CNC machinery, and instrumentation where precise motor control and reliability are critical.
