ams OSRAM TMF8821 Proximity Sensor IC is a high-precision direct time-of-flight (dToF) sensor module designed for accurate distance measurement up to 5 meters. Powered by supply voltages between 2.7 V and 3.3 V, this sensor employs SPAD (Single Photon Avalanche Diode), TDC (Time-to-Digital Converter), and histogram technologies to deliver reliable and fast distance detection.
The sensor package features a multi-lens array above the VCSEL emitter, widening the field of view dynamically up to 63 degrees diagonal. It supports multiple configurable multi-zone output data formats including 3x3, 4x4, 3x6, and 8x8 grids, enabling multi-object detection suitable for industrial automation and robotics applications.
With a maximum switching frequency of 80 MHz and maximum output current of 2.8 mA, it offers fast response time and efficient power usage. The device communicates distance and confidence data over an I2C interface for seamless integration with embedded control systems.
Housed in a compact 12-pin OLGA surface mount package, the TMF8821 sensor can be easily incorporated into PCBs for embedded or standalone sensing applications. Its wide operating temperature range (-40°C to 85°C) makes it suitable for various industrial, commercial, and laboratory environments.
This sensor is manufactured in Taiwan, Province of China, and is ideal for use in industries such as electronics manufacturing, robotics, automation, and general distance sensing. Note that this sensor is not compliant with automotive standards.
