STMicroelectronics STEVAL-USBPD27S compact 27W USB Type C Power Delivery 3.1 with PPS adapter reference design is a development kit optimized for power management applications supporting USB Power Delivery 3.0 and 3.1 standards. Featuring a single USB Type-C port with Programmable Power Supply capability, this adapter design provides highly efficient AC-DC power conversion within a compact form factor.

The design accepts a wide input voltage range from 90 VAC to 264 VAC at line frequencies between 45 Hz and 65 Hz, making it suitable for global universal mains compatibility. It delivers two fixed Power Data Objects (PDOs) outputs of 5V at 5 Amps and 9V at 3 Amps, along with two Adjustable Power Data Objects (APDOs) for PPS mode at 5VProgrammable at 5 Amps and 9VProgrammable at 3 Amps. The PPS feature allows fine-tuning of output voltage and current to enhance device charging efficiency.

This evaluation kit utilizes adaptive synchronous rectification controlled by an on-board MCU to maximize power conversion efficiency. It ensures energy-saving requirements are met with no load power consumption below 40 mW, conforming to European Union CoC Tier 2 version 5 and US Department of Energy Level VI standards. The device also complies with strict conducted noise emission regulations (EN55022 Class B).

Robust safety protections include over-voltage protection (OVP), under-voltage protection (UVP), overcurrent protection (OC), short-circuit protection, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection exceeding IEC61000-4-2 Level 4 on Configuration Channel (CC) lines. The adapter tolerates surge currents up to 35 A on the VBUS pin according to IEC61000-4-5 standards, enhancing reliability.
