Microchip USB3503/ML is a 3-channel USB 2.0 high-speed inter-chip (HSIC) hub controller designed for portable and embedded applications requiring multiple USB ports. Operating at 3.3 V, this controller IC supports three downstream USB ports with full compatibility for USB low, full, and high-speed devices, enabling broad connectivity.

The USB3503/ML features integrated RapidCharge Anywhere™ technology, compliant with USB-IF Battery Charging 1.1 specifications, allowing it to deliver optimized battery charging capabilities to portable devices. It includes a HSIC upstream port for high efficiency and reduced board complexity.

This controller boasts advanced power management with a very low standby current of 1 microampere, helping extend battery life in portable systems. It supports Single Transaction Translator (Single-TT) and Multi-TT configurations, ensuring efficient data routing for low and full-speed USB devices.

Configuration flexibility is provided through a serial I2C slave port, and defaults are available for installation where an I2C host is absent. The device integrates proprietary Microchip technologies such as MultiTRAK™, PortMap, PortSwap, PHYBoost, VariSense™, and flexPWR®, enhancing performance and signal integrity.

External clock inputs ranging from 12 to 52 MHz allow timing flexibility, while internal 3.3 V and 1.2 V voltage regulators facilitate single voltage supply operation. Additionally, the USB ports are equipped with ESD protection up to ±15 kV, meeting IEC 61000-4-2 standards, protecting sensitive downstream components.
