The Digilent 410-255 Expansion Module for Potentiometer is a specialized sensor development tool designed to facilitate evaluation, prototyping and integration of potentiometer-based sensors in embedded and educational projects. This expansion module offers a robust platform to interface potentiometer sensors with microcontrollers, development boards and single board computers using a standard SPI bus. It enables engineers, educators and developers to characterize and utilize sensor data with high accuracy across a range of measurement applications.
With measurement ranges selectable between ±2g, ±4g and ±8g, the module is suitable for both basic and advanced sensing requirements. The up to 12-bit resolution on each axis ensures precise readings, making it ideal for applications where high granularity and repeatability are needed. User-selectable resolution allows optimization of accuracy versus speed for system requirements.
The module is built on the Pmod ACL2 platform and leverages the Analog Devices ADXL362 MEMS accelerometer device, providing expanded capabilities such as activity and inactivity monitoring, free-fall detection, and power-saving modes to optimize system performance and reliability. The inclusion of a 512-sample FIFO buffer allows for efficient data sampling and batch transfer to hosts, which is critical for real-time applications and data logging scenarios.
The compact footprint (25 mm x 20 mm) allows the module to be easily incorporated into electronic development environments and constrained physical layouts. It is fully compliant with RoHS standards, aligning with global environmental and safety regulations for electronic components.
Host communication through the SPI bus ensures seamless connectivity with popular electronic platforms and enables straightforward integration with code libraries and development toolchains. The module follows the Digilent Pmod Interface Specification Type 2A, facilitating interoperability and standardization within STEM education, industrial prototyping and research applications.
This module is primarily used in sensor development, signal processing education, embedded system prototyping, laboratory instrumentation, industrial automation and research projects. Its flexible sensing ranges and robust communication support make it suitable for a wide range of applications, including data acquisition, activity monitoring, control systems, and electronic engineering coursework.
