Product Description

STMicroelectronics STEVAL-POE001V1 power management evaluation board is designed for efficient power delivery in DC-DC converters and LED drivers using the PM8805 system-in-package. This reference design integrates a high power standard PoE-PD interface capable of supporting applications up to 100 W.

The PoE-PD interface is based on the PM8805 featuring two embedded active bridges with driving circuitry and a charge pump to drive high side MOSFETs. The board includes a hot swap MOSFET and a standardized single-signature interface that provides detection, classification, undervoltage lockout (UVLO), and inrush current limitation for reliable operation.

An important feature is its ability to identify 4-pair PSE by monitoring the Ethernet cable pairs and delivering a dedicated matrix of Tx signals, signaling successful PSE type identification to the system.

The PM8805-based evaluation board is suitable for building interfaces for PoE switch mode power supplies, offering maximum conversion efficiency. It provides a Power Good Detection (PGD) signal which can be used to enable downstream DC-DC converters or LED drivers with appropriate electrical characteristics.
