Microchip ATSAMR21-XPRO MCU Evaluation Kit is a feature-rich development board built around the ATSAMR21G18A System-on-Chip (SoC), equipped with an ARM Cortex M0+ core and embedded 2.4GHz AT86RF233 ISM-band transceiver. This evaluation kit facilitates rapid prototyping and performance evaluation of the microcontroller's capabilities.
The kit integrates 256KB of Flash memory and 32KB of SRAM, supporting secure wireless communication protocols such as ZigBee through the robust transceiver with a receiver sensitivity of -99 dBm and +4 dBm RF output power. Modulation is O-QPSK with an OTA data rate of 256 kbps. Hardware-assisted MAC features including auto-acknowledge and auto-retry enhance reliability and reduce software overhead.
The embedded debugger (EDBG) on the board enables straightforward programming and debugging via the Serial Wire Debug interface without requiring additional tools. Communication interfaces include UART (virtual COM port), SPI, and I2C through the Atmel Data Gateway Interface, allowing versatile connectivity to external devices and sensors.
The kit includes antenna diversity with a ceramic chip antenna onboard and an SMA connector for connecting an external antenna to optimize RF performance. The power supply supports flexible options via USB connections or an external 5 V DC source. Additional features comprise reset and user pushbuttons, user LED indicators, and multiple GPIO pins connected to the target MCU for code instrumentation and testing.
This development kit is ideal for use in industrial control, residential and commercial automation, healthcare devices, consumer electronics, PC peripherals, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications implementing IEEE 802.15.4 or ZigBee protocols. Developers benefit from seamless integration with the Atmel Studio integrated development platform for firmware development and debugging.
The kit supports low-power operation with sophisticated RF connectivity. Onboard embedded debugger removes need for separate programming tools. Multiple communication interfaces enable flexible hardware integration. Robust hardware-assisted MAC features improve network reliability and efficiency.
User interface features assist prototyping and testing. Compatible with popular development environments. Facilitates rapid design cycles and wireless protocol evaluation. Wide applications across industrial, healthcare, commercial, and consumer sectors.
