Thermal washers are used to measure the temperature of objects such as steam or hot water. These thermometers can be placed inside the tank or directly into the water. They are usually made of bimetallic strips which expand or contract depending on the temperature. The expansion or contraction changes the distance between two points of contact and then sends an electrical signal to read the temperature.
