Product Description

The STMicroelectronics STEVAL-ISA152V1 power management development kit is an evaluation board designed for switching power supply applications. It features the L7987 regulator in an HTSSOP16 package, enabling efficient step-down voltage regulation.

The output voltage of this board can be set starting from 0.8 V, allowing flexibility for low voltage supplies while maintaining low drop-out and nearly 100% duty cycle operation, which maximizes efficiency.

The L7987 is a 61 V, 3 A step-down asynchronous switching regulator with an embedded power MOSFET capable of delivering up to 3 A depending on the load and application conditions. This design incorporates a switch-over feature on the VBIAS pin as well as light load management through pulse skipping, helping to optimize power conversion over varying load ranges.

Additional features include an adjustable soft-start mechanism to control inrush current, configurable current limit threshold for protection and safety, and a switching frequency that can be tuned to best suit the application requirements. The device contains an internal oscillator at 250 kHz which can be externally adjusted up to 1.5 MHz for more precise control.

For applications requiring synchronization, two L7987 regulators can be synchronized in a 180-degree out-of-phase configuration. This reduces the total input RMS current and enhances overall power efficiency.
