S-type thermocouples are used in many applications where temperature measurement is required. They have been manufactured since the late 1800s and are still widely used today. The S-type thermocouple consists of two wires which are joined together at their ends to form an electrical junction. One wire is made of nichrome alloy while the other is made of platinum or palladium. When current flows through these wires they generate heat. This heat can be measured using a thermal couple probe.
