It Can be used as relative instrument or as absolute instrument (starts at ambient pressure, e.g. 970 mbar = 970 hPa). It can be measured using a conventional pressure sensor; however they typically do not resolve extremely low concentrations of gas due to poor signal- to-noise ratio. Vacuum sensors rely on physical properties of gaseous molecules that are related to the number of such molecules per volume of space.
