Sensirion VOC Air Quality Sensor for VOC Monitors 1.7 - 3.6V, DFN6 Package 2.44x2.44x0.85mm SGP40-D-R4

The Sensirion SGP40-D-R4 is a humidity-compensated VOC air quality sensor integrated on a single CMOSens® chip using MOXSens® metal-oxide technology. It delivers a reliable indoor air quality signal via a digital I2C interface optimized for VOC monitoring applications.

This sensor features low power consumption, drawing 2.6 mA at 3.3 V supply within a voltage range between 1.7 V to 3.6 V, making it suitable for battery-powered and mains-powered devices. The compact DFN6 package measures only 2.44 mm by 2.44 mm with a height of 0.85 mm, allowing seamless incorporation into space-constrained systems.

Typical applications include indoor air quality monitoring, demand-controlled ventilation thermostats, and air purifiers where continuous VOC monitoring is critical. The sensor utilizes Sensirion’s proprietary SGP40 VOC Algorithm that translates detected volatile organic compound events into a VOC Index, providing a practical and quantifiable output signal.

Constructed to resist contamination by siloxanes, the SGP40 sensor maintains long-term stability in sensitivity and response time. It operates reliably in ambient temperatures ranging from -10°C to 50°C and features a 6-pin configuration. Its response time is approximately 10 seconds.

Manufactured in Switzerland, the product does not carry automotive or other specific standards/approvals, however, it meets the quality needs for environmental sensor ICs in industrial and consumer electronics.

The sensor's MOXSens® technology ensures excellent robustness and long-term stability under indoor conditions. The low power consumption supports usage in portable and battery-sensitive devices. Small size DFN6 package enables compact PCB designs.

VOC Index output allows direct use in air quality assessment applications without additional programming. Wide supply voltage and operating temperature range increase design flexibility.
