STMicroelectronics STEVAL-DPSTPFC1 Totem Pole PFC Converter development kit provides a high-performance 3.6 kW bridgeless totem pole boost circuit with an inrush current limiter (ICL) designed for digital power factor correction (PFC). It leverages advanced components such as the silicon carbide MOSFET SCTW35N65G2V, thyristor SCR TN3050H-12WY, isolated FET driver STGAP2S, and the 32-bit STM32F334 MCU.
The design includes a power board featuring bridgeless totem pole boost topology with an inrush limiter circuit, switch drivers, and an auxiliary power supply, alongside a control board with its MCU, dedicated PFC/ICL control firmware, and an adapter board for effective software debugging.
Operating at a switching frequency of 72 kHz, this reference design achieves a peak efficiency of 97.5% with total harmonic distortion (THD) of just 3.7%, providing a compact and efficient solution. It meets EMC standards up to 4 kV, ensuring low electromagnetic interference emissions and a longer switching lifetime.
The thyristor SCR functions as an AC line polarity switcher, enabling active current limitation during power-up or line drop recovery. This enhances the PFC efficiency with no EMI bouncing effects.
