Product Description

STMicroelectronics STEVAL-ISV006V2 is a power management development kit based on the SPV1040 solar charger device, designed to enable efficient battery charging using solar energy up to 5 watts. This demonstration board uses the SPV1040 monolithic step-up converter that handles input voltages from 0.3 V to 5.5 V, making it well suited for harvesting energy even from a single solar cell or fuel cell. The embedded Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm ensures optimal energy extraction even under variable lighting conditions affected by irradiation, dirt, or temperature.

The SPV1040 device regulates the input voltage via an embedded control loop that fixes the charging battery voltage through a resistor divider. Additionally, the maximum output current can be set up to 2 A, configurable by an external current sense resistor according to your specific requirements. Safety is guaranteed by protection features that disable PWM switching if the current exceeds the threshold or if the temperature surpasses 155 °C, protecting both the charger and connected components.
